Concealed Carry for Warm Weather

Concealed carry of handguns during warm weather can be a challenge. Often, you’ll find me wearing jean shorts and a tank top. Obviously, concealing a handgun during this kind of weather requires preparation.

My holster of choice during warm (hot) weather is the belly waistband holster shown below.

Guns, Heller and the Second Amendment – Simplified for your Understanding

Still confused about the recent SCOTUS decision which accurately interpreted the 2nd Amendment to be an individual right to own a handgun for self-defense – overturning an illegal Washington D.C. gun ban? Well, you are not alone. Unless you’re a legal person – you might get a headache reading the official opinion of the High Court.

The Second Amendment reads as follows:

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

At first glance, it’s easy to see how one might become confused about the true intent of The Founding Fathers regarding the Second Amendment. However, allow me to offer a few examples to help facilitate understanding.

Suppose the Second Amendment had said:

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep, purchase and use Gas, shall not be infringed.”

Can’t do much without gas – can we?

Certainly, you would still have the right to use gas in your lawn mower? Of course you would. What about your boat? Certainly! Could you throw it on cars as they drove down your street? No. The first part of the Second Amendment IS NOT a restriction placed on the second part of the amendment – but rather announces “a purpose” – not all purposes.

Let’s try another example:

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and wear clothes, shall not be infringed.”

Can’t do much without clothes either – can we?

Would you still be able to wear clothes that make you look sexy? Sure! Would you be able to put on clothing for the purpose of comfort? Absolutely. Would you have a right to wear clothing that makes you look so sharp that your chances of getting a new job would be increased! Certainly! Maybe a little cammo while hunting? Obviously!

Self-defense with a firearms was such a basic, everyday matter for the Founding Fathers – they would have thought it silly to even write it in the Bill of Rights - since it was understood. Do you have a right to breath? Yes. Same goes for the use of firearms to hunt, self-defense, etc.

What is dreadfully confusing is how the four dissenting Justices could get this entirely wrong. Perhaps those four Justices should take a refresher course in Constitutional Law 101 during the Court’s recess?

Looking at the Second Amendment again:

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

It’s obvious the Founding Fathers did not intend for “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” to be restricted by “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state,” any more than in the examples above about gas and clothing. The right to self-defense with a handgun is as much included in the Second Amendment as the right to hunting with a handgun. What is obvious is that the gun control groups & four Justices attempted to twist the meaning of the Second Amendment – further restricting the rights of the people.

Shoulder Holsters for Guns with Tactical Light or Laser on the Rail

Shoulder holsters for guns with a tactical light or a laser sight mounted on the rail have become quite popular. As this need has grown – holster manufacturers have adapted to make adjustable shoulder holsters and other types of gun holsters designed to hold a handgun with a tactical light or laser mounted on the rail. As you can see in the picture above – these shoulder holsters are designed with an adjustable thumb break and they can be worn on the right or left hand side for right or left hand draw.

Shown in the picture above is a Deluxe Harness Shoulder Holster – Pro-Tech Outdoors brand. Gun Safes – Keep Your Guns Locked Up

Gun safes are great to keep your guns out of the hands of those who need not touch them and they keep your guns safe as well. Gun rights advocates (like myself) have long argued that “guns don’t kill – people kill”. This is very true. Unfortunately, accidents have happened whereby the wrong hands have gotten hold of guns. It is my opinion that these highly unfortunate accidents are the fault of those who left the guns unlocked. If you leave your guns unlocked – where the wrong hands can touch them – you might as well be committing a crime yourself – maybe even murder.

Obviously, the primary reason for keeping your guns locked up is to keep them out of the hands of those who have no business touching them. However, there is another very important reason to lock up your guns. The strong political movement to chip away at our gun rights is as strong as ever. Preventing accidents with unlocked guns will help take away “ammunition” from political opportunist liberals who would like to see our precious gun rights completely abolished.

As with many other gun enthusiasts – I understand the need to quickly gain access to your guns in a life threatening emergency. I’ve thought about this many times under many different scenarios. I have two young children of my own and I would never keep a loaded gun in my house – not even in a locked safe (this is my choice) because of the potential dangers. However, I’ve also wondered how I would feel if my family were to be threatened by vicious criminals (happens every day) with me not being able to access my guns quick enough to protect them. It’s a horrible thought either way.

Nevertheless, I’ve come up with the best solution I can possibly find. Although I keep all my guns locked up in a gun safe – I have chosen to keep one single handgun in one of the new biometric gun safes. These gun safes are designed so you can program them to open only when you - or another responsible gun owner – place your finger over the fingerprint reader. That’s correct, all you need to do is place your finger in one spot on the gun safe – the safe door opens – allowing you quick access to your handgun. In this way, you can quickly have your handgun and ammunition available to protect you and your family from harm.

Differing from traditional gun holsters designed to fit on your belt or hip – inside the pants holsters fit inside the pants (as the name suggests) offering a greater amount of concealment. However, you might need to purchase your pants or jeans with the holster and handgun in mind – or you might not be able to fit your belly and your holster in the pants. I’ve had this happen. :)

Gun Holster for Gun and Tactical Light or Laser Sight

Gun holsters manufacturers of today are increasingly seeing a need to design and manufacture gun holsters which will accommodate a handgun with a tactical light or laser sight mounted on the rail of the handgun. As more law abiding citizens are seeing the need to defend themselves from criminal harm – handguns equipped with tactical lights and/or laser sights are becoming more popular.

Pro-Tech Outdoors manufactures nylon gun holsters (side holsters and shoulder holsters) specifically designed for handguns with rail-mounted equipment such as a tactical light and/or a laser site. These gun holsters are adjustable and designed to accommodate many combinations of handguns with tactical lights and lasers. Because of the inherent size and shape of this gun holsters combination – the gun holster itself takes the shape of uniform pouch – less resembling the traditional gun holster design.
